NewSO now runs on .NET 10 (Windows)
- The Windows game and the Volcanic editor now run on a modern .NET 10 engine. You do not need to do anything – the update installs it like any other patch, and the game looks and plays the same. Under the hood this replaces a runtime from 2016, which unlocks faster loading, better crash reporting, and future improvements we simply could not build before.
- Mac and Linux players are not affected – your client keeps working exactly as it does today, and the same update applies safely on every platform.
- If anything at all behaves differently for you after this update – performance, crashes, graphics – please report it, and mention that it started with this patch.
Every cat was a calico
- Cats and dogs stopped wearing their own breed. Take a pet out of your pocket and it came back a calico cat or a Scottish terrier, whatever it was before – a tortoiseshell, an orange tabby, a beagle. Dragons and the Unleashed raccoon were caught by the same fault.
- Nothing was actually lost: your pet’s breed was still on file the whole time, the game was just drawing the wrong fur over it. Every animal is back in its right coat as soon as you update, with no need to re-place or re-buy it.
- Pet portraits in the top-left panel follow the animal’s real breed again too.
Tip jars: tips no longer disappear
- Tipping a jar could take your money and give it to nobody. If the jar had been placed by staff rather than bought from the catalogue, the game had nowhere to put the tip – so it quietly took the simoleons off you, put nothing in the jar, and still played the thank-you. Tipping one of those now simply does nothing instead of costing you.
- A jar with no owner could collect tips that nobody was allowed to take out. Tips in an unowned jar now belong to whoever owns the property it is standing on, so they can always be collected.
- A jar with no owner showed a random neighbour’s name. It would offer “Tip <some sim who happens to be standing nearby>” – usually an NPC. It no longer picks a name it does not have.
- Reminder on the two things that are working as intended: **Withdraw Funds only appears for the jar’s owner, and only when there is something in it**. An empty jar showing just Tip and Check Tips is normal.
The Spellbound cash register is now a tip jar
- The Kurrency Kiosk LX used to be a Makin’ Magic shop register. Cash registers do not mean anything in an online neighbourhood, and since the Magic Town displays started selling to you directly it had nothing left to do but stand there and hire a gypsy clerk who also had nothing to do.
- It is now a working tip jar, with the same booth, the same streamers and the same catalog art. Visitors get a Tip option; the owner and roommates get Withdraw Funds and Check Tips.
- Any Kurrency Kiosk already sitting on your lot becomes a tip jar by itself the next time the lot loads. You do not need to re-buy or replace it.
- The gypsy clerks the old register had spawned are cleared away, since nothing hires them now.
- The kiosk now costs ยง150, in line with the other tip jars.
Sims who live on a lot stop teleporting themselves around
- Resident sims were shuffling one tile sideways roughly once a minute, all day, for no reason – mid-conversation, mid-idle, wherever they happened to be standing.
- The game has a rescue that frees a sim who gets welded into a table or chair. It was mistaking every sim standing still for a sim who was stuck, and “rescuing” them over and over. Residents now only get moved when something is genuinely in their way.
